MY RANT ABOUT JADE GOODY...
People saying they are sick of hearing about Jade Goody and her cancer... What they dont realise is that there are thousands upon thousands of people in the UK (and elsewhere..) like Jade Goody: People who were born into poverty, to parents who need parenting themselves - whose lives were walking disasters. It is amazing Jade has turned out as well as she has: doing her best to give her kids the love she never received, and with a heart big enough to forgive, and try to care for her own mother.
Big Brother, for her, was a chance to escape that poverty. Who, of all of us, could say honestly that they would have chosen differently - if we were in the same situation she was? She is the product of our society and culture - and before you start shouting - look at what is on our televisions; that's what is socialising generations of our children, like it or not. She is not a murderer or a child molester - just an ordinary girl doing the best she can for herself and her family. And there are a couple of other things she is doing as well. One of them obvious: encouraging young women to be screened for cervical and other cancers. The other, not so obvious: giving people, across the UK and beyond, the opportunity to step outside their prejudices and find some compassion for a brave young woman who, after an apalling childhood, is now in the throes of leaving this life - and her children, knowing she will never see them grow up - and all this while suffering unimaginable physical and emotional pain - and dealing with the fear of dying..
All the coverage of Jades suffering brings home the reality of living and dying with this terrible disease.
Who, of any of us, has the right to judge any of her actions? I certainly do not!. Rant over!..
